When you hear "Genius Coffee," you might think of brilliant ideas brewed to perfection. And you'd be right. But behind the name lies a story of talent, grit, and a touch of Italian flair.
Genius Coffee is the brainchild of Eugenio Adiletta, you can read his bio here 🔗
. His hands seem destined to fix and create. People often call him a genius born with an innate ability to solve problems. Coincidence? Not quite. In Italian, the name Eugenio originates from the word "genio," which means genius.
In 2007, Eugenio decided to turn his love for machines into something real. He noticed that Vancouver needed a reliable coffee machine repair hub. With his entrepreneurial spirit, he leased a small space in Burnaby, BC, and Genius Coffee was born.
At first, it was one man and a van, fixing machines and sourcing parts from local suppliers. But as business grew, local vendors resisted selling him parts. Undeterred, Eugenio called his father, Giovanni, in Italy. They sourced parts from manufacturers in Italy. This allowed Genius to thrive by bypassing the middleman.
Genius became a preferred repair center. What started with commercial machines expanded to include home coffee machines. The first was a DeLonghi.
Recognizing the potential, the DeLonghi team connected Genius with its Toronto-based service provider. This partnership blossomed, making Genius the official DeLonghi service center for British Columbia.
In 2011, another milestone came. Philips Electronics acquired Saeco and closed its global stores. Genius stepped in to secure a service contract, cementing its status as a trusted repair hub for both DeLonghi and Philips brands.
Genius continued beyond repairs. In 2014, Eugenio expanded into commercial machines, bringing Italian brands to Canada. The Genius brand sold La Marzocco machines for a short period. It then became the master distributor for Sanremo Coffee Machines, see Sanremo Canada website here 🔗.
By 2021, Genius diversified further. It added Mavam under-counter machines and 3Temp brewers to its portfolio. These high-end brands strengthened its reputation in specialty coffee equipment.
In 2024, Genius partnered with Barista Attitude, the maker of the Tempesta and Pilet machines. They are part of the Ryoma Group. They make Wega and Astoria coffee machines.
With success in Canada, Genius aimed at the U.S. In 2024, it announced a new office in the New York Metro Area, to open in January 2025. The Vancouver office will focus more on service and support, like the Toronto office.
