Procedure to Clean the Steam Wand After Steaming Non-Milk Products

Tools & Materials Needed:

  • Milk jug

  • Backwashing cleaning solution (1 teaspoon)

  • Cold water

  • Clean milk jug (for morning rinse)

Steps:

  1. Prepare Cleaning Solution: Fill a milk jug with cold water. Add 1 teaspoon of backwashing cleaning solution.

  2. Steam the Solution:

    • Submerge the steam wand in the solution.

    • Activate the steam as if you were steaming milk for a latte.

    • Turn the steam off and on at least five times. This will ensure the solution circulates and breaks down any sugar residue.

  3. Heat the solution: Continue steaming until the solution becomes hot and slightly foamy.

  4. Soak Overnight:

    • Once the solution is hot, turn off the steam and leave the steam wand submerged in the jug.

    • Allow it to soak overnight to effectively dissolve stubborn sugar residues.

    • Important: This step should be performed as part of the nightly closing routine.

  5. Morning Rinse:

    • In the morning, fill a clean milk jug with fresh, cold water (no cleaning solution).

    • Repeat the steaming process. Use only water to flush out any cleaning solutions.

  6. Inspect and Wipe: After rinsing, wipe the steam wand with a clean, damp cloth. Then, check for any sugar or cleaning solution.

Notes:

  • Always perform this procedure when closing for the night to cut downtime.

  • For best results, add this cleaning step to your daily routine. It will prevent buildup and keep your steam wand working well.
